Scaffold Rolls

Scaffolding castors are an indispensable part of scaffolding construction. The castors are simply inserted into the tube of the static scaffold, making it both mobile and safe. Not only do they allow a scaffold with castors to be manoeuvred on site, but they also provide stability and support throughout the process.
In this article, we discuss, among other things, the different types of castors for use as scaffolding castors and show their advantages and disadvantages. We also give the five essential reasons why castors should not be missing from a scaffold!

5 key reasons why you should use castors for scaffolding

Rollers for scaffolding are an essential part of any scaffold erection and for good reason. Many companies prefer castors for their scaffolding for reasons ranging from safety to efficiency. Here are 5 main reasons why you should use scaffolding on castors:

  1. Rollers on scaffolding ensure safe operation throughout the construction project. Our scaffold castors have corresponding brake locks and are tested with 3-fold static safety according to EN/Iso standards
  2. They ensure easy manoeuvrability and stability, so that scaffolding can be moved quickly and safely with minimal effort.
  3. They carry heavy loads and thus indirectly relieve the staff. In addition, the transport of materials over uneven or wet surfaces is considerably facilitated.
  4. Scaffolding castors increase productivity because they allow workers to move the scaffolding quickly as needed. This helps to ensure that the work is done on time and efficiently.
  5. With a height-adjustable, braked roller scaffold, places in the terrain are accessible that are either not accessible at all or only very difficult to reach under certain circumstances with a rigid scaffold.

Rollers for scaffolding - What are the different types of scaffolding rolls?

Scaffolding castors are available in many different sizes and designs, which are used depending on the area of application. The ideal size of a scaffolding castor depends primarily on its area of use. Castors that have a sturdy steel frame with polyurethane wheels, for example, provide stability when moving the scaffold over uneven surfaces or up ramps. Some models, on the other hand, also have adjustable height settings so users can customise their setups to meet the needs of each project. Other features such as locks and swivels make it easier to manoeuvre the scaffold when needed. If you are interested, you can read more on the topic of "Height-adjustable scaffold castors" further down in the article.

You see: There are a few different types of castors that can be used with scaffolding, offering different benefits depending on the specific application. As mobile scaffolding solutions become more popular for both commercial and domestic use, choosing the right castors for your needs is an important consideration.

Swivel castor

The most common type of castor for use with scaffolding is the swivel castor. This type can be turned 360 degrees in any direction, which provides greater manoeuvrability and allows the scaffold to fit into tight spaces such as doorways or narrow passageways. In addition, these castors remain locked when required to ensure stability on raised or sloping surfaces. Secure connections to the scaffold are provided by our castors with threaded tubes, expander  fixings, counter plates and steel pin fixings.

Swivel castors with brake

All castors on mobile scaffolds must be fitted with a brake. The brake mechanism must prevent any rotation of the castor to prevent unintentional horizontal movement of the rolling tower.

Caster wheels with locks ensure that the wheels and castors are locked in place. They provide stability during movement and prevent the castor frame from accidentally slipping or sliding. Braked castors consist of a housing, wheel and brake mechanism.

The housing supports the wheel while the wheel brake locks it in position, allowing the user to move safely without fear of slipping. They are available in different sizes and can be easily attached to any scaffold. Scaffold swivel castors with brakes from Wicke are tested according to DIN EN 1004 and thus offer a very high standard of safety.

Height-adjustable scaffolding castors

Adjustable scaffold castors provide a convenient and efficient way to safely move scaffold towers. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, these heavy-duty castors feature adjustable height settings to help navigate uneven surfaces. The construction industry is increasingly turning to this innovative technology to ensure safety and reduce labour time.

Each castor has an adjustable central post with a secure locking mechanism that allows quick height adjustment without tools or expertise. This makes them suitable for both professional tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts who want to quickly erect scaffolding with minimal effort. The durable design ensures that the castors can withstand heavy loads, making them suitable for transporting bulky materials between construction sites or levels.

For which substrates are scaffold rolls suitable?

Different surfaces require different types of castors for optimal performance and safety. Different polyurethane, plastic or rubber treads can be chosen depending on the surface conditions. For example, soft materials such as grass or mud may not be suitable for castors with hard rubber tyres or rigid plastic treads, as they could sink into these surfaces and make the framework unstable. On areas with hard surfaces and solid ground such as concrete, asphalt or stone, conventional scaffold castors with polyurethane wheels would provide stability and support when moving the scaffold on the ground.

This is why it makes sense to choose the right material for the castor or tread depending on the surface condition of the ground. This way, the castors not only ensure a safe stand and a good grip, but can also be moved without leaving a trace and, above all, without much effort. If you are not sure which material is best suited for your scaffolding, please feel free to contact us. We will advise you individually.

Are scaffold castors suitable for every scaffold?

Scaffolding castors are essential components of many types of scaffolding and provide workers with easy and safe mobility. They offer a variety of benefits, from faster assembly to improved safety and working efficiency. However, when choosing the right castor solution, it is important to consider the specific requirements of each individual project. Size, weight, shape and type of material used in the construction must be considered to ensure the castor is suitable for the job.
